Could you tell me about a time when you aided a colleague with his work?

Question: Tell me about a time when you assisted a colleague in his work. What was the result?

Answer:

Sure. I really enjoy helping others on the team, especially when they’re stuck and not sure how to move forward.

S – Situation:
Once, someone on a neighboring team was struggling with a production issue for a few days. I noticed that he seemed frustrated and wanted help, but didn’t quite know how to ask.

T – Task:
After finishing my work early one day, I proactively messaged him on Teams and offered support. He was happy, but mentioned he wasn’t even sure how to describe the problem clearly.

A – Action:
So I sat down with him and tried to understand the issue. He told me that after one of his code changes went live, a dropdown component in our shared UI broke — its layout was completely messed up, even though his change didn’t touch that component directly.
I helped him debug the issue step by step. After ruling out rendering or layout bugs, I noticed the problem was actually due to a CSS variable conflict — the styles weren’t properly isolated, which caused unexpected overrides.
Together, we fixed the CSS scoping issue and verified the dropdown worked as expected.

R – Result:
The bug was resolved and the fix was shared with the wider team via email, to prevent similar issues in the future. My teammate was really grateful, and after that, our collaboration improved significantly.

Can you tell me of a time when you spotted an opportunity more significant than anyone thought it would be?

Example: Expanding the Scope of Hafh's Travel X Project

At Kabuk Style, while working on the Travel X project for the Hafh platform, we initially focused on a narrow scope—integrating Hotelbeds API to expand our accommodation offerings. This was expected to enhance our property portfolio by around 50%, which was already considered a significant win.

However, during the early stages of market research and user feedback analysis, I identified a much larger opportunity. By exploring blockchain technology, we could revolutionize the traditional subscription model, offering a unique, secure, and scalable travel subscription service. This would not only increase our property offerings but also position Hafh as an industry leader in innovative travel solutions.

I presented this broader vision to the leadership team, backed by data and potential ROI, showing how this approach could expand our customer base beyond traditional travelers to tech-savvy, privacy-conscious users. Initially, there was some resistance due to the perceived complexity and risks of implementing blockchain. However, I convinced key stakeholders by demonstrating the long-term benefits and market differentiation this could offer.

As a result, the project was expanded to include the blockchain-powered subscription service. This led to a 90% increase in our property portfolio, a 30% boost in bookings, and positioned Hafh as a pioneering platform in the travel industry, far exceeding the original expectations.

Situation:

I was laid off from my first job just four months after joining due to budget constraints. This was a major setback for me as I had just started my career. Around the same time, my father suffered a heart attack, which required me to stay at home and take care of him while he was on bed rest for several months. The combination of losing my job and dealing with a family emergency left me feeling devastated, and I struggled to apply for new roles.

Action:

Despite these challenges, I remained determined to grow in my career. While caring for my father, I focused on upskilling myself:

  • I attended mentor sessions on ADPList to gain industry insights.

  • I reached out to experienced designers on LinkedIn for portfolio reviews and feedback.

  • I enrolled in courses through Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) to expand my knowledge.

  • I continuously improved my portfolio and resume, incorporating the feedback I received.

I also actively networked with professionals, which helped me regain confidence and visibility in the industry.

Result:

My persistence paid off. Where I once struggled to pass resume screenings, I started receiving recruiter calls consistently. In fact, this very interview happened because I proactively connected with a senior designer, shared my portfolio, and received a referral for this role. This experience not only strengthened my portfolio and skills but also taught me the power of perseverance, networking, and continuous learning.

I try to understand their point of view and be open to new ideas. If I listen without being defensive I know  the other party will also listen. That way we can take the best idea from both and come up with great solution.

Today I didn’t want to come to office directly, I wanted to start my day by visiting a temple, So, I first searched in map, to talk aloud of the temples nearby when I am driving my bike.

It started mentioning take left to go to abc temple, I know, if I take that left, it will be very long to my office. so, I skipped that left and proceeded further in my regular route to office. After few kms, it again started saying take right to go to def temple. This time, I wanted to take that route.

So, I have proceeded as per google map, and I reached the temple after 20 mins of drive. I finished my visit and started by bike again. I have again asked to talk aloud about the hotels nearby as I didn’t eat my breakfast today to accommodate to temple visit.

It again started directing me in the similar way.

In this whole journey, the problem which I faced as a user is, I haven’t changed my final destination which is real page, now that I am diverting to temple and hotel, its not talking aloud with the overall distance increased to RealPage, also the different routes I should take because of this diversion, which in turn leads me to more traffic than usual, and I will be delayed to office.

So, Problem statement here: Final destination is not changed, but requests for interim destination should also talk aloud on the possible route changes for the final destination and distance increase to the final destination

Persona: Dailu commuters who may have some diversions for other personal work.

PainPoints: Not easy to get the right route and the distance increased due to the diversion the user took.

Proposed solution:

Voice assistant to mention the increase of distance to the final destination, and mention the alternative routes, for Every diversion the user takes.

What were some of the challenges you encountered bringing your product to market or launching it?

The product that I brought to market was a BNPL button for e-commerce checkout. The button was an SDK enable for the Magento Platform. The goal was to let merchants enable the payment button in less than 2 days instead of one month with the previous journey. The main challenge was that the company did not have the resources and knowledge to deploy this product. I made a comprehensive business plan showing how this initiative will grow revenues and reduce merchant onboarding cost. the way i approached this challenges was through partnering with a company based in Israel that had already deployed this feature successfully. I implemented successfully the initiative in 3 months, merchant onboarding accelerated in the digital space.
