The Prepfully Practice Interview is a 1-hour session with an expert.
An expert is someone who’s working at, or has recently worked at your target company in your target role, so they know how to best prepare for the interview.
The session is a simulation of a real-world interview. You’ll receive verbal and written feedback, and also what your experts’ hiring decision would have been, had this been a real interview.

What can I expect from a practice interview?​

Practice interviews will help you understand your current preparation level, and where you need to improve. However, during the practice interview session, we don’t expect experts to give detailed advice on how to improve. If you’re looking for specific/detailed advice - we recommend an ‘Expert Advice’ session.
We also explicitly ask our experts not to share any confidential information - this includes trade secrets, product roadmaps, financial information related to their employer and anything they deem sensitive. This protects them as well as you.

What should I NOT expect from a practice interview?

Short answer - no. All our experts are seasoned professionals and work at reputed companies - and they therefore charge payouts for their time.

The more nuanced reason is - these coaches, at their Prepfully rates, are charging small fractions of the hourly rates these jobs command. Tech roles in the US have annual salaries ranging between $100,000 all the way until more than $2mil. A mock interview session costs anything betwene $50 - $300 (with an average price of $150). This is less than 0.15% of these salaries. #perspective :)

Finally - a lot of coaches offer(ed) free sessions to folks affected by layoffs or in university. Regretfully the recipients of these sessions consistently disrespected these coaches' time by choosing to no-show, or cancel last-minute. Prepfully actively removed support for free sessions in light of this.

Do I get some preparation material for the interview?

In this scenario - we recommend an Expert Advice session. Experts provide all kinds of interview related advice and guidance. Fill out the usual practice interview form, and mention that you’re looking for expert advice in the “Special Requests” section.

​I’m not prepared enough to do a mock interview, but need some advice on how and what to prepare. What should I do?

Experts provide (some) verbal feedback at the end of the interview itself. We ask them to submit written feedback within 24 hours; although it sometimes (relatively rarely) takes longer. Written feedback for mock interviews will always contain a theoretical hiring decision; so that candidates can use this to assess their performance. However, experts won't repeat feedback they provide verbally; again in their written notes. 

PS - If you need feedback faster, we’d recommend flagging within the special requests section - we can ask experts to keep the last 5-10min of the session dedicated to more detailed verbal feedback.

Having said that - we don't actually recommend requesting mocks exclusively with coaches who are currently at your target company. For several reasons:

First - The pool of coaches who are willing to do mocks FOR a company's candidates while AT the same company themselves is necessarily a subset of the full set of coaches who have worked at a company. The reduction in total coaches who can be approached introduces a risk that your session might not get scheduled (although you'll still receive a refund in this situation, of course)

Next - these coaches tend to charge higher rates. Why? Because even though we explicitly ask coaches to avoid violating any T&C, NDAs etc, coaching candidates who are interviewing for their current place of employment can lead to an increased perceived conflict of interest. Coaches often charge extra to compensate for this risk.

Third - because there is an increased risk of violating actual "codes of conduct" etc; coaches tend to be a lot more careful about what they share; erring on the side of caution. Again; this is something we explicitly recommend to coaches, since the last thing we'd want is for them to get into trouble. Therefore, as a candidate you will find "ex-company" coaches will sometimes be a lot more willing to share information; the risk to doing so is literally much much smaller. 

Finally - from a logistical POV - while we try extremely hard to keep track of all coaches on the platform; there are now more than 6000 and rapidly growing. We will frequently be slightly out-of-date, and we don't want to end up making a false promise along the lines of "this coach is currently at xyz company"; only to end up being inaccurate to the tune of a couple of months.

In this context; while Prepfully's system guarantees a coach who has worked at a specific company or role (and transparently shares when this isn't viable); if you need someone who is currently at your target company - please email us so that we can advise whether it's possible and what the charges for this would be. 

PS - all Prepfully coaches deliver great experiences; there is a good reason 70% of all candidates end up booking additional sessions on the platform. We're (almost too) aggressive in removing coaches who receive bad reviews -- coaches who get 2 bad reviews automatically get removed from the platform; and candidates get an offer of a refund or replacement sessions. And if a coach is retained (for instance, if they're the only coach supporting a particular company-role combination), this is flagged explicitly on their coach profile.
