Frequently asked questions
Why does Prepfully charge VAT?
tl;dr: The Dutch Tax Authority requires us to charge and remit 21% Dutch VAT to all bookers globally, not only in the EU.
Reasoning
- Prepfully is currently registered in the Netherlands
- We receive tentative guidance on 26 Apr 2024 that we might be required to charge Dutch VAT (21%) to all candidates globally.
- After almost 10 months of discussions with more tax lawyers, accountants and authorities than we ever wanted to get to know - we received a confirmation from the Dutch Belastingdienst (Tax Authorities) on 11 Feb 2025 that we're required to charge and remit 21% tax on all transactions globally.
We are aware this is quite non-ideal, especially if you are not located in the EU
- In transparency - we really dislike this additional tax burden too. Unfortunately our reasoning that VAT should be charged at the "location of consumption" was rejected by the Dutch authorities.
- If you have connections to any (reasonably priced) international VAT consultants, please email us on tax@prepfully.com and we'll try to incorporate their input into our appeal.
- Until then, we will (with regret, but without option) need to charge and remit 21% on top of every booked transaction. Due to the nature of taxation, we can't make any exceptions to this unless you are making a booking as a "business entity" rather than a "private individual".
