Describe a time when you went above and beyond the call of duty

As my last semester as a system engineer student, I went above and beyond on time management of the time of the team and mine, this was on my thesis as student. while we where a team of 4 members, one of our members and I had one of our parents fighting cancer, so we needed to do time management to work in the project and have a correct time management of personal and work time. What I did was stated my focus, helped my companion doing the same noticing in what of the project we where helping the most and focus on that on my case the SQL queries & documentation of the project. Propose the solution to the other members, while also covering more and more in the written part of the project, this solution was applied by me, but i also had to cover sometimes my team member, doing what was also his tasks in this case the design of the project processes, most of the UML diagrams, because the situation of his family member worsen and some one needed to pick up the pace of the project and that person was me

Situation: I was tasked with building a prototype of our DIGITS app on the Hololens 2, a mixed-reality device. This was new territory for us, and I was excited to explore how our telephony experience could translate to AR.

Task: My goal was to create a working demo that integrated our telephony SDK into the Hololens experience using Unity and C#. I had about two weeks to get something functional enough to evaluate viability.

Action: I dove deep into learning Unity3D and Hololens development from scratch, and spent considerable time trying to bridge our SDK — which was built in C++/C# — with the Hololens platform. Despite my efforts, I couldn’t get reliable communication between Unity and our SDK.

Rather than give up, I pivoted and simplified the approach by porting our existing Windows desktop app into the Hololens environment. This at least allowed for basic app functionality and UI testing. Through further research and prototyping, I discovered a key platform limitation: Hololens did not support background notifications, meaning incoming calls couldn’t be surfaced while another app was in use.

Result: I documented everything, demoed the prototype to my manager, and recommended that we pause development until the Hololens platform evolved. While I didn’t deliver the full solution I set out to build, I learned a ton, clearly communicated risks, and saved the team from investing more time into a blocked path. I see this as a failure in the original goal, but a success in terms of ownership, problem-solving, and protecting resources.

What do you like and dislike about an application on your phone? How would you prioritize and fix the things you don't like?

of all the apps on my phone, i probably would find difficult to go through my day to day life if i didnt have Whatsapp on my phone. I really admire the way Whatsapp as a platform has evolved. It was probably one of the main reasons why people in India were first exposed to Internet and smartphones in the first place. It enabled simple communication between peers, creation of micro communities in the form of groups, removes barriers of language by introducing voice chat, voice calls and video calls, and now have also introduced payments and B2B marketing tools. So without this app, it would be really difficult for me to stay in touch with my family or work group of even the business i do right now. If i were to improve on something, i'd love to see how the whatsapp AI evolves. Currently it has a very limited functionality - maybe write some texts, answer simple questions, draw some images etc. Since this is one of the most important app for me on my phone, i'd like it to evolve as a personal assistant for me, taking notes, blocking calendar meetings, finding things on internet etc

Let me start by asking clarfying questions.

Are you asking about which application I like and why do I like it and how can I improve it ?

I like instagram as it's available on both the platforms like Ios and android. It has features that are related to the latest generation with ease of use in mind.It has privacy features like multi factor authentication, ability to approve or reject a incoming message from a sender who is not in your followers list.Ability to choose who can follow or if you can unfollow them.It also has personal and privacy mode and various features like reels,IG movies etc.

The thing I would like to focus to improve on is reels.Reels is a feature on instgram which is a short version of videos where you can post dance, acting, messages all type of content in a video format. You can create a video of multiple pictures as well by adding audio, effects etc. However as content creation is more in use people find reels to be more time consuming and also has some content that is too young for the kids as kids are more to be prone to mobile devices. There are two pain points one is that reels show lot of various content that is not suitable for kids and also lot of our friends share lot of reels that end up in the inbox unseen like constant spamming your inbox with shared reels.I will focus on pain point no 1 about having reels content that is not suitable for kids.I would think of having like a filter or a toggle button on to say kids content only when the phone is in hands of a kid that would restrict the adult content and I would message the succes by seeing how many users switched on the toggle and would first release it as beta version to set of users and collect feedback by asking how is our new filter.

When buildling the next generation instance, during the planning phase I budget the amount of servers we will launch the product with. Given each server cost was over 2 million dollar I biased to towards frugality and provided a bare minimum number of server we could launch with. But what I completely missed was during the developement some servers will end up in bad state and the engineering team will short of servers to test the software and firmware getting built which made meeting the project timeline riskly and heavily dependent on delivery schedules of servers and them staying healthy. This quickly became a bottleneck that I realized. I quickly put togther a plan to request adittional server and provide a detailed breakdown on where and how these would be used during and after developement. Synced with the hardware and ODM team and executives to get a approval and ordered the parts to get the servers and racks build at ODM.
