i was head of events in a student activity called aces and it was a magnificent experience as i gathered a team wich i chose by myself and my partner as they all were hardworkers and creative thinkers of course we had some trouble with them as some of them were being lazy about doing there tasks or procranstinating but we were able to motivate them each time so they would give their best

At Auctane, I followed a structured process to ensure alignment - I would initial have date for date, and followed up with an email for alignment. I would also send a weekly status report for the leadership highlinting the project status and identifying any risks associated and how I am working on mitigating that risks.

For eg. in one of our projects we had a external dependencies on UPS for a new API version - our PM was working with them and the delays on their end had impact for us - the project would have been delayed by a month.

I communicated with the leadership team on the risks and the plan i have to mititgate this risk. I had a join stakeholder meeting with the UPS team and my PM. We could identify parts of the API which we could work on while they are working on thier issues - by working out a parallel path - I could reduce the risk and deliver the project on time.

By being proactive and collobrating with the stakeholders I could deliver the project on time.

Situation:

I was laid off from my first job just four months after joining due to budget constraints. This was a major setback for me as I had just started my career. Around the same time, my father suffered a heart attack, which required me to stay at home and take care of him while he was on bed rest for several months. The combination of losing my job and dealing with a family emergency left me feeling devastated, and I struggled to apply for new roles.

Action:

Despite these challenges, I remained determined to grow in my career. While caring for my father, I focused on upskilling myself:

  • I attended mentor sessions on ADPList to gain industry insights.

  • I reached out to experienced designers on LinkedIn for portfolio reviews and feedback.

  • I enrolled in courses through Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) to expand my knowledge.

  • I continuously improved my portfolio and resume, incorporating the feedback I received.

I also actively networked with professionals, which helped me regain confidence and visibility in the industry.

Result:

My persistence paid off. Where I once struggled to pass resume screenings, I started receiving recruiter calls consistently. In fact, this very interview happened because I proactively connected with a senior designer, shared my portfolio, and received a referral for this role. This experience not only strengthened my portfolio and skills but also taught me the power of perseverance, networking, and continuous learning.

When buildling the next generation instance, during the planning phase I budget the amount of servers we will launch the product with. Given each server cost was over 2 million dollar I biased to towards frugality and provided a bare minimum number of server we could launch with. But what I completely missed was during the developement some servers will end up in bad state and the engineering team will short of servers to test the software and firmware getting built which made meeting the project timeline riskly and heavily dependent on delivery schedules of servers and them staying healthy. This quickly became a bottleneck that I realized. I quickly put togther a plan to request adittional server and provide a detailed breakdown on where and how these would be used during and after developement. Synced with the hardware and ODM team and executives to get a approval and ordered the parts to get the servers and racks build at ODM.

In the first company I worked as tech lead, even though my performance rating was good, I received a 360 degree feedback on my interpersonal skills as well. One of them said that I sounded a bit rude in couple of discussions. When I asked for the instances, I got examples where I got the feedback from and not whom. So I had to explain my manager that it was not intentional and the aggressive demanding nature of mine could have been perceived as rude. But I considered the feedback and identified, corrected myself, toned down the way I speak in certain instances which made a set of teams in my org ex: production support teams reach out to me more often now for guidance. So this helped me gain valuable experience and unlock a totally different perspective in terms of collaboration with other squads in the company.

There was a quality issue in the field with one of our parts. Quality team was leading the effort to root cause the issue and find a fix. Quality was able to root cause and identify the issue and implement the necessary solution which involved a process change. Anytime a process change is made, we have to make proper documentation no matter how small. Quality was insisting that since change was so small it didn't need to be documented. I disagreed and stated that any change must have proper documentation as it provides traceability and establishes responsibility for the fix and reason. I created the necessary documents to track the change and closed out the issue. There was never a request for the document to be shown but it is always better to be have it if ever needed.

I see myself working at the intersection of engineering and quantitative finance ideally at a hedge fund such as Two Sigma. My past experiences at Harvard Medical School and internships at MITRE/rapStudy have given me an interest in creating scalable systems that are high performant and capable of ingesting large amounts of data for model development and research.  I strongly believe Two Sigma is the perfect place for me to work on these highly technical projects. Additionally, I also look forward to the prospect of entering leadership roles during my career, where I can play a more impactful role in prioritizing cultivation of engineering talent and projects in fields such as low-latency and data engineering.
