I led a project to implement a new feature in our loan processing system aimed at reducing API latency for faster loan approvals. Midway, I encountered data inconsistencies and latency issues caused by schema mismatches between the new API and our backend services. To resolve this, I optimized the data schema mapping, streamlined query performance, and introduced Redis caching for frequently accessed data, which significantly reduced the API call frequency and improved response times.

I also collaborated with QA to parallelize testing, allowing us to catch issues early. By continuously optimizing our microservices with adjustments to load balancing and asynchronous data processing, we increased processing speeds by 20%. While the deadline was slightly extended, our enhancements directly improved loan approval times and were a solid technical win for both the team and the user experience.

I was having a team member, who was technically strong, but when it came to gelling with the team members, he was having problems. His comments/feedback for the technical artefacts, or for ones understanding of a problem, was showing people in a bad light. Team members were apprehensive, working with him. People started to unplug themselves while that person was around. I could sense that, the team’s engagement had started to wane. If that had continued, we were at risk of losing that person from the team.

I initially un-plugged him from the team discussions and meetings and started to have a daily sync-ups with him. Sensitised him about working as a team and how successful teams thrive in the organisation. Made him enrol for some trainings like - Seven habits of highly effective people. Recommended that training mainly because of the focus it lays on - personal change, collaborations with the team etc.

Then he started to show empathy towards the team members, started to mingle with team, started to give constructive feedbacks for the technical contributions and started to show respect to the fellow team members. The bridge that was created, started to disappear. And we finally made him part of all the discussions and meetings and today, he is one of the go-to person in the team.

This is a product which we release recently it would check the recent breaches that happened exploiting certain vulnarability in the recent past and also check the vulnarabilties in the infrastructure and then provide a score based on severity. the higher the severity the higher the chance of getting breached. This was a great hit but two of our customers came back with a specialised request, the wanted to quantify the severity in terms of revenue loss so it would help them prioratize fixes on the infrastructure. This not only required heavy research but also defining the scope as well that where it fits in. The reason it was important to think about this feature because it was a big contract and our company wanted close it before the end of Q2. I had a planning sessions with the stake holders and product team, we defined the scope of the feature and then communicated with the customer and got all the buy ins, there had to be some repriorization required to imediatle start working on the project, I had a chat with my team and transperantly explained why this was such a high priority for the company and how it aligns with the company goals. This gave boosted their morale and also they saw the advantages of adding this feature and the moral was high.

In the Meraki integration project, the supply chain process required significant optimization of the entire flow. To achieve this, most of the shipping-related process needed to be modified. However, the team lacked sufficient time to complete the work because the planned use of an adapter did not work, requiring me to redesign the flow.

With limited time remaining before system integration testing (SIT), the cross-functional teams and other tracks were ready to test their code, and management was unwilling to postpone SIT and Cycle 1 testing. Since there was an additional round of SIT and Cycle 2 testing planned, I decided to proceed with the changes that the team had already completed. We migrated the completed code to the test instance and communicated that only Phase 1 of the changes would be released initially, while the remaining changes would be delivered during Cycle 2 testing.

I ensured the Phase 1 delivery was designed to avoid impacting the end-to-end flow, allowing the other teams to proceed with testing their portions of the code. This approach ensured that other teams' deadlines were not affected. I also informed the cross-functional teams that the OTM and GTM changes were completed, and the remaining shipping-related code optimization would be delivered before Cycle 2 testing, along with the next round of SIT.

By taking this approach, I ensured that complete testing was not impacted and that the project stayed on track.

In the first company I worked as tech lead, even though my performance rating was good, I received a 360 degree feedback on my interpersonal skills as well. One of them said that I sounded a bit rude in couple of discussions. When I asked for the instances, I got examples where I got the feedback from and not whom. So I had to explain my manager that it was not intentional and the aggressive demanding nature of mine could have been perceived as rude. But I considered the feedback and identified, corrected myself, toned down the way I speak in certain instances which made a set of teams in my org ex: production support teams reach out to me more often now for guidance. So this helped me gain valuable experience and unlock a totally different perspective in terms of collaboration with other squads in the company.

while reviewing one of the older projects that was currently implemented in the company I noticed that there was no alerting in place if the data pipeline breaks, the data pipeline has never been broken and it never failed for the last 2 years. it was a pipeline where the data would be dropped into an sftp bucket by the customer every hour and then it was moved to an s3 bucket where s3 triggers were implemented to moved the data in to queue. So in case there is an issue with the data not being processed we would only know when the we see a drop in volume. I identified it as a potential issue with the system and worked on a proposal to have monitoring in place so we are notified when there is an error. I worked with the program manager and devised a plan on how to implement the alerting and the time lines as well as the effort that will be needed to implement it. I mapped the impact of not having it to the current goals of the company and then put forward a proposal of implementing the alerts to the business and took their buyins. after getting the buyins I proposed the task to my team and some of the sr devlopers were not too keen on implenting the alerts, I gave the task to some of the Jr devlopers and the alerts were implemented. after the implementation we discovered that for some hrs in a day we werent getting any files so instead of getting 24 files in a day we were getting 20 files a day in an average. This was rectified by talking to the customer and the missing data was solved. but this made the whole team realize the importance of monitoring and alerting. It also bosted the moral of the Jr developers seeing the direct impact they made to the business goals
