A good product manager must be

Customer centric - A good PM will always keep their customers at the heart of every decision. It is essential that the product team is working on features as per real user needs. In order to do this, PM should be able to be able to work through customer feedback, reviews, analyze these data to understand their true pain point and prioritize the right features for delivery.

Clear communicator - Clear communication is of utmost importance for this role. It is essential that a PM is bale to articulate a complex problem in a simple manner. A PM deals with various stakeholders and needs to be able to communicate in a clear manner to be able to align all the teams towards a common goal. 

Strategic thinker - A good PM should be able to think several steps ahead, planning actions strategically aligning with the business goals. This includes planning a clear roadmap, anticipating risks, and making decisions that balances short term and long term success.

Good problem solver - Problem solving is very central to a PM. There is problem solving in every aspect of the job. A PM should be able to break down a complex issue into smaller manageable problems and employ effective approaches to address them. A PM should also be very resilient under pressure and work in ambiguous situations.

With a major product launch on the horizon, expecting to triple the user load. The infrastructure was non-optimized for demand and incident response was non-harmonious across teams with no set process.

As the SRE Manager, I'd have to implement project changes to infrastructure to accommodate high availability and scalability. I discovered a long-standing issue surrounding incident response and observability that would make it all the more difficult to achieve reliability under pressure and peak traffic.

Therefore, instead of fulfilling the project requirements as presented, I became an advocate for change across the organization. I established an observability platform with 100% stack coverage, created custom SLOs/SLIs/error budgets to enhance performance and reliability visibility, drafted and socialized an incident management playbook across the company and held hands-on trainings for all respective teams. In addition, I advocated for Terraform for Infrastructure as Code to help with deployment time and held FinOps reviews to help eliminate redundant costs in cloud spend.

As a result, we did not only survive the 3X traffic upon product launch with zero critical incidents, but we also achieved 15% saves the following years in cloud costs and 40% faster deployments. Many of the processes I created were adopted as company-wide best practices.

As Program Manager my biggest achievement was leading the development of a complex electromechanical module for HP. The project consisted of developing and producing a huge electromechanical module for a high-speed large format printer.

I was in charge of overseeing the entire Product Development Process, from requirements gathering and solution design to development, testing, deployment, and mass production release.

The Key aspects of this project included

1.Strategic planning: I developed a plan including the project Objectives, scope, and deliverables, as well as timelines, milestones, and resource requirements.

2.Stakeholders management: I engaged with key stakeholders such as business leaders, external vendors, and customers to keep them all on the same page, ensure alignment, and address concerns.

3.Risk Management: Identifying potential risks and challenges associated with product performance, compatibility with external modules, material availability, etc.

4.Collaboration and Communication: I facilitated collaboration and communication among cross-functional teams involved in the project, including engineering, operations staff, and materials, to ensure alignment.

5.Quality Assurance: Implementing robust testing processes and quality assurance measures to ensure reliability and performance.

6.Mass production release: Worked with all operational teams to ensure material and factory readiness to launch the program to mass production

Finally, the project was released on time and satisfied all stakeholders, internal and customer. This reinforced the importance of clear and transparent communication between stakeholders to drive successful technical outcomes and foster a collaborative team environment.
