Earning the trust of a team is essential for effective collaboration and success. I approach this by:

  1. Being Transparent: I prioritize open communication and honesty. For instance, during a project update meeting, I openly shared the challenges we were facing, which helped build trust among team members as they felt informed and included in the process.

  2. Listening Actively: I make a conscious effort to listen to my team members’ ideas and concerns. When a colleague proposed a new strategy, I encouraged discussion and incorporated their feedback into our plans, demonstrating that I value their input.

  3. Following Through on Commitments: I ensure that I meet deadlines and deliver on my promises. For example, when I noticed our team was at risk of missing a deadline on a key project, I took the initiative to reorganize our workflow, delegate tasks more effectively, and set up short check-in meetings. This allowed us to complete the project on time, reinforcing my reliability to the team.

  4. Showing Empathy: I take the time to understand the individual needs and motivations of my team members. By being supportive during high-pressure times and recognizing their personal challenges, I create a safe space for open communication.

  5. Encouraging Collaboration: I foster a team-oriented culture by celebrating collective achievements. After we completed a project successfully, I organized a small team celebration to recognize everyone’s contributions and strengthen our bond.

  6. Being Approachable: I maintain an open-door policy, inviting team members to share their thoughts or concerns. This accessibility helps establish a friendly atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable engaging with me.

By implementing these strategies and sharing specific examples, I build a foundation of trust that strengthens team dynamics and enhances overall performance."

I stand out because I combine operational depth with a transformation-focused mindset. At Mercer, I didn’t just manage benefit renewals—I identified inefficiencies and built solutions, like a global provider template that boosted data accuracy from 50% to 95%.

I also simplified complex reporting processes, saving over 15 hours per client while improving quality. What differentiates me is that I don’t wait for problems to escalate—I proactively redesign processes, engage stakeholders, and deliver scalable outcomes.

That mindset of continuous improvement and strategic thinking is what helps me make a lasting impact.

During my tenure at Cisco, I participated in a project where I collaborated with a devops team and testing team to accomplish the resource allocation . At the end of the project, each intern received an evaluation from our direct supervisor. I was surprised to find that my performance rating was lower than I expected, given the contributions I felt I had made.

Task:I wanted to understand the basis for the rating and felt it was important to clarify any discrepancies between my self-assessment and the supervisor’s perception. My goal was to maintain a positive relationship while advocating for the work I had done.

Action:I requested a brief, one-on-one meeting with my supervisor. In that meeting, I calmly listened to their feedback to understand their perspective fully. Then, I shared specific examples of my contributions:

  • How I had taken the lead on documenting the current resource allocation and new resource allocation based on my experience.

  • My involvement in proper resource allocation resulted in 25% reduction of P1 issues due to resource allocation.

  • The additional responsibilities I took on to get all resource approvals and helm script changes went unnoticed.

I also provided the documentation and metrics I’d been tracking to illustrate the impact of my work. By centering the conversation on factual evidence and outcomes, I was able to highlight aspects of my contribution that might have been overlooked initially.

Result:After reviewing these points, my supervisor acknowledged that some of my behind-the-scenes work wasn’t fully visible to them.  we agreed to have more frequent check-ins going forward. This experience taught me the value of proactive communication and documentation, ensuring that both my manager and I have a clear view of my responsibilities and achievements.

What would you advise the product team to do if we are launching a new product but are seeing a decline in usage metrics? Would you continue with launching the product?

This would depend on the usage metrics that are in decline and the product launching.

I would start with investigating why there is a drop in usage, as there are several scenarios -

1. if low usage is overall and due to seasonality, I would generally hold off on product launches.

2. if some of the usage metrics are down, and some are up, then it depends on the product itself -

a. If the new product is more relevant to the ones that are up, no reason not to go forward.

b. If the new product is more relevant to the declined metrics, then we need to understand if it's a steady decilne (trend seen overtime) and the new product might assist with it. Or, perhaps it's a sudden decline, and I would hold off with product launch until I have an understanding of what is causing this sudden decline.

Of course, if any publich commitments were made to the launch of this product, it's also something we need to take into consideration, since changing a public publish date is problematic for user trust.

Success could be measured in multiple different factors. An engineer or a resource would be performing very well in the team, stupendous technically but their relationship with the team should also be desirable. They should be open to collaborate, have good relationship, trust with the team, help cross functional team for collaborating with multiple business teams. Should be able to understand the problem providing right solution at right time, mentoring others in the team and always posses the ability to communicate with at most clarity.

All of this is a 360 degree feedback that one could be considered successful working in an organisation.

Usually in one's career sometimes they are asked to work on somehting which they are not motivated to work for and it's not as challenging as other projects. Then I usually try to align the work they doing to not what I or compnay would gain form it rather what is their benefits from it. Also, at teh same time acknowledging the downsides of that project like it;s legacy systems and may not give them greenfield field projects opportunities for you but they are bread and butter and their continuity is important and  usually these projects generate better impact which is were performance reviews are very helpful
