Cassandra is a no-SQL database preferred when we have a write-heavy system. SQL
properties such as JOINS are not supported with cassandra, so writing complex
queries is very hard. And it is used when we prefer availability and eventual
consistency where some staleness is fine. To ensure this we may now have more
database shards. Cassandra uses partition key and sorting keys for data
modelling and Write-ahead logs and LSM trees to ensure high write-throughput and
eventual consistency.
