This was at Criteo. We were working to launch APIs for our display campaign
management. This was a project that I inherited. We had a number of third-party
development partners pushing us for the API enablement of our display
capabilities. The design solution required a heavy understanding of Criteo's
internals to be able to successfully create a line item going through all of the
validation logic of creatives matching particular page types and eligibility
rules.

My perspective was that this would not be usable by our customers and that we
couldn't release it due to its overall lack of alignment with our future
direction with regards to NV models when combined with our API standardization
goals. The next steps for this involved explicitly disappointing partners who
wanted us to check the box on having a release out the door.
