"In 5 years, I see myself in a senior leadership role, either as a senior engineering manager or director, leading high-performing teams that tackle large-scale, high-impact technical challenges, particularly in areas like distributed systems, decision science, or machine learning infrastructure. I want to contribute to a forward-thinking company like Haus, where I can influence the technical roadmap and mentor engineers to achieve their full potential while driving meaningful business outcomes.
In my previous roles at Uber and Amazon, I had the opportunity to lead teams and work on large-scale distributed systems, which has greatly shaped my leadership and technical expertise. For instance, at Uber, I played a key role in improving search coverage to 92% by introducing semantic search and upgrading Lucene. This involved coordinating with cross-functional teams, procuring resources like GPUs, and making key decisions that helped reduce index-building time from 40 hours to 8 hours, ultimately improving search performance. Leading this effort required balancing long-term scalability with immediate business needs—skills that I plan to expand upon in future roles.
At Amazon, I was involved in managing large-scale distributed systems and gained hands-on experience in scaling infrastructure to support millions of users. The challenges of maintaining system reliability and optimizing performance in a high-velocity environment honed my ability to deliver high-quality products on time, even under pressure. These experiences have reinforced my goal of continuing to lead teams in solving complex technical problems at scale.
To achieve my 5-year goals, I plan to:
- Continuously improve as a leader: I’ll focus on staying ahead of technology trends, particularly in AI and distributed systems, and further develop my leadership abilities by learning from peers and mentors.
- Drive impact and innovation: By applying lessons from my time at Uber and Amazon, I’ll continue delivering scalable, efficient solutions that have a direct impact on business success. For example, at Uber, implementing semantic search helped achieve a measurable improvement in user experience and bottom-line results.
- Foster a high-performing culture: I aim to create a collaborative, accountable environment where engineers are empowered to innovate and grow, much like how I nurtured talent and problem-solving within the teams I led at Uber and Amazon
