assumption - we are vending snacks. Number of customers, replenishment is out of
scope. I will focus on vending and customer experience. Product variety is
definitely a first requirement. I will guage this by averaging the products sold
in last 6 months. Also ease of selection - easy to access - easy to use menu -
with care given for visually impared customers by audio support for menu
selection and braille friendly keypads.  For wheel chair customers - menu is at
a accessible height. Audio cues will be provided for action steps.
Next -the vending machine should support a variety of payment options such as
interac, visa, mastercard, amex. The vending machine will have built in payment
processing unit that will accept either a tap (RFID) or card swipe. The machine
will also provide option for receipts printed or mailed. For future enhancements
- measuring the last 6 month trend, payment methods could be refined based on
user behaviour.  For example - if Amex is not too popular, then cash driven
system can also be rolled out.
Safe gaurds - The vending machine could come with a silent alert system - in
case of forcible breakin - an alert is sent to security. Similarly - in case of

I would separate the vending machine into different components: display for
product selection. Storage for keeping the inventory of the products to sell.
Delivery mechanism to hand out the products and the payments interface. I would
include elements to adjust the user interface to the client. For example the
customer can be a child, an adult or a person with disabilities. I would place
sensors to detect the customer height and adjust the user interface height. The
vending machine will be connected to services sending events when a product is
getting low in inventory. The payments component would be able to process
different payment types. And the delivery mechanism would select a product from
inventory and deliver it to the client. The products will be shown as picture in
a display rather than directly shown the product through a crystal that way the
inventory can be managed efficiently without having to care for the display of
the products.

One way is to find out if the goal is to come up with a stateful system.

If yes, then vending machine could be : Idle, Dispensing, Refunding, and
OutOfService.

Secondly, I'd set up entities:

* Product: Name, price, button code/location

* InventoryCount: How many items in the machine

* PaymentHandler: It would be responsible for validating and processing
   payments.

* VendingMachine: Manage current state, and handle transitions. Also track what
   Product(s) have been selected, and how much money has been inserted (if
   cash).
