At XYZ, during 1:1 a developer on my team said that he did not understand how
ELK works and wanted to my advice on how to learn this technology. I saw this as
a mentoring opportunity and assigned a Sr. Dev as he was subject matter expert
on ELK to mentor this Dev. I also ensured that he was provided right resources
so that he can learn on his own as well. The result was that this Dev was able
to pick up on ELK stack and operate independently. I also followed up in the
next few meetings to ensure that this dev was on the right track.

In my opinion the following are the most essential qualities of a successful
manager:
1. Communication:  Make sure all team members know whats expected out of them as
clearly as possible. Make sure every member of the team knows exactly what other
members are working on. To this effect I established a process at Proofpoint
that emphasized on documenting all of your work on Confluence whenever possible.
As part of the communication quality I also maintain clarity in times of
ambiguity. For example at Proofpoint when there was a slight change in
prioritization because of a change in upper management I made sure that the team
morale is not affected and all of their concerns are heard and answered as much
as possible.
2. Empowerment: I believe that as a manager, my job is to establish a platform
for success for all team members. For example at Proofpoint, this manifested as
defining clear problems and tasks for all team members and letting them solve
the problem in a way that aligns with the team's priorities and time
commitments. Unblock them when necessary and support them throughout the
process.
3. Accountability: Being accountable for the decisions I make and also instill
the same principle in my team mates. Establish metrics to track progress and do
your best to make sure the team follows those metrics.
4. Reward and establish trust: Give kudos and reward team mates for their
contribution. Be transparent and offer constructive feedback to improve whenever
necessary.

on and executes accordingly.  
2. clear vision: It is very important to have a strategic vision to work on for
the teams, products the person is managing. define KPIs to measure them. Aligns
the goals as per company's goals
3. Ownership: Owns the goals set out based on the vision. Executes them and
keeps people updated.
4. Customer driven: Works based on customer and company's priorities.
